A backlash against AI imagery in ads may have begun as brands promote 'human-made'
A backlash against AI imagery in ads may have begun as brands promote'human-made' In a wave of new ads, brands like Heineken, Polaroid and Cadbury have started hating on artificial intelligence (AI), celebrating their work as "human-made". But in these advertising campaigns on TV, billboards on New York streets and on social media, the companies are signalling something larger. Even Apple's new series release, Pluribus, includes the phrase "Made by Humans" in the closing credits. Other brands including H&M and Guess have faced a backlash for using AI brand ambassadors instead of humans. These gestures suggest we have reached a cultural moment in the evolution of this technology, where people are unsure what creativity means when machines can now produce much of what we see, hear and perhaps even be moved by.
A Comprehensive Analysis of Large Language Model Outputs: Similarity, Diversity, and Bias
Smith, Brandon, Bouadjenek, Mohamed Reda, Kheya, Tahsin Alamgir, Dawson, Phillip, Aryal, Sunil
Large Language Models (LLMs) represent a major step toward artificial general intelligence, significantly advancing our ability to interact with technology. While LLMs perform well on Natural Language Processing tasks -- such as translation, generation, code writing, and summarization -- questions remain about their output similarity, variability, and ethical implications. For instance, how similar are texts generated by the same model? How does this compare across different models? And which models best uphold ethical standards? To investigate, we used 5{,}000 prompts spanning diverse tasks like generation, explanation, and rewriting. This resulted in approximately 3 million texts from 12 LLMs, including proprietary and open-source systems from OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Mistral. Key findings include: (1) outputs from the same LLM are more similar to each other than to human-written texts; (2) models like WizardLM-2-8x22b generate highly similar outputs, while GPT-4 produces more varied responses; (3) LLM writing styles differ significantly, with Llama 3 and Mistral showing higher similarity, and GPT-4 standing out for distinctiveness; (4) differences in vocabulary and tone underscore the linguistic uniqueness of LLM-generated content; (5) some LLMs demonstrate greater gender balance and reduced bias. These results offer new insights into the behavior and diversity of LLM outputs, helping guide future development and ethical evaluation.
TCS and DeakinCo. partner to address digital skills gap in Australia - The EE
Sydney, Australia, 04 February, 2022 – Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has entered a strategic partnership with DeakinCo., a division of Deakin University, to co-design a series of corporate learning programs to meet the growing demand of talent in emerging technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, data analytics and robotics. The programs aim to help address the digital skills gap and accelerate the economic growth of Australia. The new partnership brings together Deakin's academic excellence and TCS' extensive industry networks and experience. The first program, to be piloted in early 2022, will focus on machine learning, which consists of three streams enabling senior executives, mid-management and practitioners to leverage the power of this emerging technology in their chosen profession. Each stream will be facilitated by academics and industry experts. The programs are designed to address specific capability gaps for businesses and will provide learners with an engaging experience that goes to the heart of the skills and knowledge required in these dynamic fields.
5 Ways Artificial Intelligence and Chatbots Are Changing Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Chatbots are changing the world in more ways we can ever imagine. Completing a diversified range of tasks, AI and Chatbots have become a normal element in our everyday life. The technology has played an important role in the development of varied fields including education and online tutoring. Through artificial intelligence, educators and educational institutes have been able to offer a personalized learning environment to students. AI-driven tools not only improve student interaction and collaboration but also act as a game changer in the innovative ed-tech world.
IoT Is Building Higher Levels Of Customer Engagement
Bestselling author Shep Hypken--the "Chief Amazement Officer" at Shephard Presentations--makes a rock-solid case for why customer experience has advanced to the level of 21st-century table stakes: "New research proves that consumers are expecting, if not demanding, highly personalized experiences," Hypken writes in Forbes. "And the good news for those businesses that can deliver is that customers are typically willing to spend more when they receive such custom-tailored service." Computer vision also comes into play where smart retail stores are concerned.iStock Enter the Internet of Things (IoT), which through interconnected devices and strong data analytics makes an entirely new level of customer surprise, delight and convenience possible. What's more, the IoT brings relevant experiences and information to consumers, whether to facilitate the operation of smart homes or to provide relevant health and wellness data that can be shared with medical professionals.

Editor: We are currently working on a project that attempts to integrate artificial intelligence and legal reasoning for the purpose of simulating judicial decision making. The project has defined legal reasoning and legal analysis-the former taking place before the latter begins. Using a historical approach with our legal system's basis founded in English common law, we attempted to examine the role of stare decisis in decision making. More extensively we examined the role of reasoning in legal analysis, relying on Wittgenstein and to some extend Hofstadter, for an explanation of the foundation of the thought behind man's reasoning process. Legal reasoning is a specialized thought process, but reasoning is generic to all processes that attempt to incorporate artificial intelligence.
Telstra builds 900 machine learning models for marketing overhaul
Telstra has used open source machine learning technology to answer the age-old question that plagues every marketer: how effective is my ad spend? The telco wields one of the biggest marketing budgets in Australia, but that doesn't stop Telstra from wanting to track the performance of every dollar spent. The company previously faced a six-month lag to get visibility into the effectiveness of its marketing spend; that is now down to five weeks using new marketing mix modelling developed in partnership with Accenture, Deakin University and Servian. The telco previously used a traditional econometric model to assess the performance of its marketing spend, pulling together 800 variables – which took two-and-a-half months to assemble – and then modelling this using regression techniques. "Six months after the marketing period had ended I could tell the CMO [chief marketing officer] and the marketers how effective their marketing was... six months ago," Telstra's director of research, insights & analytics Liz Moore told the recent Big Data & Analytics Innovation Summit in Sydney.
6 Ways Artificial Intelligence and Chatbots Are Changing Education
Chatbots are about to change the world in more ways than we can imagine. Already, bots around the globe can complete a diverse set of varying tasks. From ordering pizza online to mashing faces together in Project Murphy, chatbots are about to become a normal element in everyday life. As the scope of chatbots becomes broader every day, there are new applications popping up constantly. Education has traditionally been known as a sector where innovation moves slowly.
